The Morning After

I stayed with Sam til after 3AM. He was resting quietly so I thought maybe it would be a good time to try catching a few winks in one of the family lounges. Of course all of them were occupied except one. I pulled the chair out to a flat surface and tried to settle in using my coat as a pillow. I dozed off initially but awoke shortly freezing cold. I tried covering up with my coat but that wasn’t working. After using the restroom I peeked in the “consultation room” and noticed it was warmer and actually had some blankets. So I settled in again and this time I slept for just over an hour. When I woke up I was anxious to get back down to room 579 and check on Sam. I bumped into his nurse in the hallway and she said, “He’s sitting up in a chair and he looks great.” When I got to his room he indeed was sitting upright in a chair. He was feeling quite nauseous and had already thrown up twice. Ashleigh had put an order in for an anti – nausea medicine and they were slow to respond. She got quite feisty about it. I told her “you go girl!” She was an awesome nurse and we were blessed to have her. She promised to keep us in her prayers. When Ashleigh gave report to the day shift nurse I heard a good deal of what she said. She called Sam a “rock star” and raved about how well he is doing and how strong he is. The plan for today is to leave the ICU – woo hoo! God continues to show up in amazing ways. The power of prayer has been so evident these last few weeks. We are so thankful for all the prayer warriors out there. Blessings to all of you.

Anyway, will try again! I am so glad to hear Sam is up and moving. That post surgery nausea is nasty but hopefully the meds will help. Praising God for all he has done so far! Prayers continue!
