Ok so in part two we got a diagnosis and we were told it was kind of a “let’s wait and see” thing. When you are diagnosed with MGUS you are normally a male and normally in your 70’s or 80’s… but again we’re told there is no treatment until the disease progresses. And it may not. The chance is 1-2% a year that it will head south.
So the 6 month followup labs were done in May 2015. There’s about a week between the time the samples are taken/collected and you just wait; then you have that meeting to discuss the results.
The results were as follows:
- NO abnormal bands were detected on immunofixation
- NO Monoclonal proteins were detected
- NO abnormal peaks were detected on protein electrophoresis
- NO M-Spike detected
We felt these were good results and awaited the docs opinion. He said “Whatever you’re doing, keep doing it!” and that’s the kind of thing you like to hear from a doctor especially on a serious subject like this. He slated a follow-up for one year and that batch of samples was collected last week- tomorrow we go hear what this year’s news is.
