Motherly advice

There are moments in time when your parental skills shine.  We all do our best to protect our children from the dangers in life.  As parents, we want to protect our children from harm and often find an opportunity to offer advice when we feel it necessary.  Whether our kids listen or not, is up to them.  All we can do is hope and pray that the seed we plant will grow into a greater understanding of what it is we are trying to say to them.

Rita obviously lets Emma have her space but did use a quite moment as we sat in the waiting area to warn Emma about what she might (will) see when she first visits Sam following surgery.  I, too, listened as she explained that Sam wouldn’t look as he did before being rolled down the hallway in route to the OR.  Taking the advice of her friend, Rita let Emma know that Sam would be hooked to machines by tubes and she might be surprised by how bad he looks.

At this stage, the advice was well received and we are all taking an opportunity to prepare ourselves for his appearance.  To strengthen ourselves as best we can before stepping into that room.  Scared?  Maybe just a little.  But regardless of our anxiety, we are looking forward to the reunion.

Rita hit a home run speaking with her daughter about this.  I hadn’t given it a thought and felt, if given the opportunity to visit Sam, I would be prepared.  But, I am not to sure I really was prepared after having contemplated her words.

This is true love between a mother and daughter and is proof that the Rose household is as solid as a rock.  So much so that no matter what the future may hold, the love that binds this family together is more powerful than anything that can be thrown at it.

  1. I am so glad that Aurita warned Emma about her dads appearance. Ten years ago when my brother had open heart surgery no one warned us and I never gave it a thought until I saw him. I barely recognized him. However, within a few days he looked like his old self. It is just hard to see our loved ones hurting

  2. Rita, i wrote last night but it did not post. I want to also commend you for warning Emma of what she might see. Boy i can’t tell you the things i have seen in hospital rooms that i never expected! The good news is, in cases like Sam’s, each day is an improvement. But that first sight can be a shock! I was praying last night that it would go well for you, Emma and John! Be blessed, Sister, and know you and Emma are being prayed for as much as Sam!
