Silverstein Room 1029B

  • After waiting most of the day Sam has finally been moved out of ICU to the step down. On this floor everything will be geared towards getting ready to go home. He will walk 3 times a day, learn how to care for his incision, etc. The central line, all but one pic line and Foley have been removed. He still has a chest tube which may come out tonight. This is a semi private room but it sounds like his room mate will probably be leaving tomorrow. The second anti nausea medicine seems to be working and he is drinking ginger ale. His thirst is insatiable (a side effect from the anesthesia) . I won’t be able to stay in his room tonight so I will be going to stay with a sweet lady that Wayne Kuhns connected us with. Wayne and Ruth’s son Brian used to live in Philly so when Wayne found out Sam was coming here for surgery he immediately contacted Brian. Brian’s  friend said I certainly could stay with her. I was hesitant at first because she is 5 miles out which equates to 40 minutes by public transportation. She called me yesterday while we were on the road and volunteered to pick me up at the hospital tonight and take me to her house. She suggested I use the “uber” to get back and forth. Her niece uses it and it is cheaper than a taxi and will take me door to door. I’ve heard of uber before but this will be my first experience with it. Sam and I both felt this was another answer to prayer. He has taken care of us so well!

  1. God provides for us before we even know we need the provision! What a blessing to see Christian brothers and sisters caring for one another. Hope you can get some rest tonight Rita! Prayers for all of you are constant. Love ya!

  2. So glad it’s over and everything went well. Now praying for a quick and easy recovery. He needs a pillow or teddy bear to hold against his chest.

      1. Thank you. They actually gave him a big heart shaped pillow with a real heart diagram on it. There’s a sharpie attached so I’m thinking we should have the surgeon label it.

  3. Hello.

I know you don’t know who I (Larry) am but I helped Sam set this blog up for him. I just realized I have a customer that can help him out. I am very glad to hear that he is doing well. I had a good conversation with him on Monday.

I helped design this site: http://teddy-tech.com/ In short they are cough-buddies, to help with post-op surgeries.

Please take a look when you get a chance. They are reasonably priced.

  4. I have been following all of the entries and I am so glad to hear that all is going well. Sam is one of the best people I know and I hope he has a quick and easy recovery.

  5. Sam, Rita and family- Will continue to lift you up in prayer for God’s healing hand and guidance to be with you. God’s grace has been poured out on you and has revealed and will reveal in this journey a depth of understanding that not many experience. I tell you from personal experience there is much joy to follow in how you will view all that is around you. I pray for you to continue to feel God’s presence, comfort, peace and almighty power on you all. The Apostle Paul wrote” In all things give thanks” for now it has been revealed to you. God bless!!
